The Elginkan Foundation established the Turkish Culture Research and Technology Awards Program in 2006 to evaluate and encourage research, studies, and services related to Turkish culture, technology, and industrial applications, thus contributing to Turkish society. This program was developed based on the first and second paragraphs of Article 2 of the Elginkan Foundation Charter, which relate to Foundation Objectives: "To research, support, protect, sustain, and promote our cultural values, the customs and spiritual values that have shaped us throughout our history, and our Turkish language," and "to encourage activities in the fields of Science, Technology, and Education."
The awards program is organized in the following categories. The Elginkan Foundation Board of Directors determines the program's implementation in each year.
The Elginkan Foundation Board of Directors establishes award committees for each calendar year. Applications are evaluated by committees consisting of representatives from our universities represented on the Elginkan Foundation Board of Trustees and from respected, competent institutions and organizations in our country.
Candidate Proposal:Applications for the award are not announced, and application files and attachments are not returned whether the candidates win or not. The following institutions and organizations can nominate candidates for the award program.
- Atatürk Culture, Language and History High Institution (Turkish Language Institution, Turkish Historical Institution),
- Turkish Academy of Sciences Council,
- Science Academy Association,
- University Senates, Engineering Sciences, Turkish Culture and related fields; faculties, institutes and centers,
- Engineering Sciences, Turkish Culture and related fields; and public and private sector institutions and organizations operating in related fields,
- TÜBİTAK Research Groups Executive Committees,
- KOSGEB Presidency,
- TTGV Presidency,
- General Directorate of Productivity,
- Technology Development Zones Executive Organizations,
- Relevant Civil Society Organizations,
The institutions and organizations in question shall submit a file containing the CVs of the candidates they recommend, their work and the reasons for their recommendation. They send it to the Foundation Directorate with a proposal letter. The proposal file, especially in files with attachments that are difficult to reproduce, should be sent in the number of commission members.
The Foundation makes the award announcement every year in May. The Award Commissions finalize their work within 2 months of receiving all files and present their opinions to the Board of Directors. The Commissions evaluate the applications by receiving the opinions of consultants, if necessary, and by establishing sub-commissions when necessary. The Board of Directors makes the decision to determine the award winners as a result of the evaluation carried out within 1 month. Following the decision of the Board of Directors, the award winners are announced in accordance with the schedule determined by the Board of Directors in advance. The awards are presented to the award winners in a ceremony announced in advance.
The award committees take the following criteria into consideration when making their evaluations.
The Turkish Culture Research Award is given to a study or project, as well as to individuals or groups for their work and contributions.
- The competence of the researcher or research group
- The originality of the study
- The scientific content of the study
- The study's Turkish culture and its value in terms of our language
- The outputs (research, publication, etc.) obtained as a result of the study(s) are in Turkish culture. and its significant contribution to our language (protection, development, promotion of Turkish culture and language, etc.)
- The study(s) being a reference source
- The study(s) having the potential to lead to new research
- The communication and dissemination of the information produced as a result of the study(s) to the relevant circles (through articles: articles, notifications, reports, etc., teaching and training, research, services, etc.)
The Technology Award, is given to the study or project.
- The researcher or research group competence
- Scientific content of the study/Project
- Technological content of the study/Project
- Innovation dimension of the study – Turkey
- Innovation dimension of the study – Global
- Originality of the study/project
- Currentness of the study/project
- Genericness of the study/project in terms of new products and services
- Whether there is an invention in the study/project
- Possibility/possibility of the studies turning into a product to be offered to the market
- Market success of the product
